I am happy to announce that pianod2 revision 241 has been promoted to stable release.
This includes:
* A smorgasbord of small fixes.
* Dropping support for libav.
* Adding support for gstreamer.
* Updating ffmpeg support to the new 3.1 API.
It’s has lots of runtime on my home automation server with ffmpeg 3.1. And finally, I set up some tests on the RaspberryPi with gstreamer, including unplugging my fiber connection and waiting for it to stall, and making sure it recovered gracefully. How did it take me 2 months to get around to testing that?
I noted recently that Ubuntu 16 switches to ffmpeg from libav, subsequent to Debian doing it, which announced their intention back in July 2015. There’s a really good analysis of why they decided to ditch libav in their wiki:
https://wiki.debian.org/Debate/libav-provider/ffmpeg
I expect it’s just a matter of time before these changes find their way into Raspbian as well. If I was nervous originally about dropping support for a popular library, I’m not anymore.
Enjoy!
