[Pianod] telnet volume

It sounds like you’re using the troubleshooting guide here:
http://deviousfish.com/pianod2/troubleshooting.html

Did you choose the audio output with raspi-config? The pi allegedly does it automagically, but I’ve not found it reliable.
sudo raspi-config
Option 9 - Advance Options
Option A8 - Audio
Choose the HDMI or 3.5mm jack option.

You’ve added a tone generator source and selected it using a sequence something like this:

$ nc localhost 4445
USER ADMIN ADMIN
TONEGENERATOR ACTIVATE
PLAY EVERYTHING

You should get some noise now.

It sounds like you’ve got the client running, so you can also do most of this through that. Sources->Add new source->tone generator, add it. Then go to track view, and select “Play everything” from the drop-down.

To stop the tone generator you can just issue a STOP command, or select “Stop” in track view’s drop-down. The client behaves like any media source (Pandora, filesystem), so you should see some track and artist names as they are played on the client.

As for “pianod window”… if you’re running it from the command line, it’s the terminal session where you invoked pianod. If it’s being launched by systemd, you’d have to look in the systemd logfiles.

The website says if you don't get sound to check the pianod window for errors and to check volume. I'm confused what the "pianod window" is and I don't know how to check the volume. Also, is the correct way to stop the tonegenertor to restart the daemon?
