wsgw is an open-source utility that gateways
traffic in and out of Websockets connections, allowing HTML5
website connections to existing services. Both line-oriented (text)
and binary protocols are supported.
Websockify is a project that does similar things but is more established and, at this point, more mature and feature-rich. Before messing around with wsgw, look into Websockify which may be already installed/readily available via your package management system.
Documentation & References
- websockify has similar programs implemented in Python, C, Clojure and Ruby. It handles encrypted traffic (wss://) whereas wsgw does not.
- Websocket Telnet Proxy allows the requesting websocket to specify where they want to go.
- Telnet client using websockets allegedly implements Telnet, if you can figure it out.
