Privilege level... Message 136 is sent at login and includes user level and any extra flagged privileges:
136 Authorizations: admin owner foo bar
But that's a good point, in case a client wants to retrieve it later. I'll add a GET PRIVILEGES or something like that.
Which reminds me, in 111 the rate message now includes 'neutral' and is always generated (no more need to assume 'no message = neutral'). And it's rebroadcast if the rating on the current song is changed.
On the client question... PhoneGap sounds a lot like the Titanium Appcelerator that Michael is using for that client, except made by Adobe. *Shrug* no opinion, it all seems like competing technology to repackage what can be done on the web. There's something slick about having it be an app, but that's a packaging issue, not a code issue.
And on the WebSockets front, TenFourFox based on Firefox 17 is now available. Firefox for older OS X 10.4/10.5 PPC with hardware-specific builds to max out the performance. I've now got it running on a 10 year old PPC ("Antimony") hardware, and since FF17 has WebSocket support, it's able to run the web client.

Should I go ahead with that or is this websockets stuff going to shake things up a bit? Like maybe worth trying PhoneGap using websockets, or just trying it from the mobile browsers? Would be nice not to proliferate clients more than necessary.
