I have added 'stop now'; it's in SVN @ 82.  'stop' on its own retains existing behavior to avoid breaking scripts etc. that already depend on it.

The tarballs are currently built from my scratch area, I'll change that in the near future to build from SVN @ HEAD.  Tarballs will probably change to use that numbering rather than a date at that point.
